Tiny Links are shortened links to every forum page on Invision Plus. For example, a typical URL looks like:
http://www.invisionplus.net/forums/index.php?mforum=pss&showtopic=1295&st=0&
which has a length of 76 characters.
The Tiny Link of this URL is:
http://invisionplus.net/1q4nj33494
which has a length of only 34 characters!
Tiny Links appear at the bottom of forum pages, and begin with the label Tiny Link:. If you are using Firefox, right-click and choose Copy Link Location. In Internet Explorer, right-click and choose Copy Shortcut. You can then paste the Tiny Link into forum threads, replies, PMs, emails, IMs, etc.
Tiny Links are not broken when used in emails. They will also never expire. (Please note: during this beta period, Tiny Links are not guaranteed to be permanent. They may become broken as we make changes to the database.) They do not contain any special symbols, such as ?, =, or &, making them easily indexed by search engines (Google does properly index 301 redirects such as the ones used by Tiny Links). Tiny Links are also easier to write on paper, reducing the chance of error. If you come up with another creative use for Tiny Links, let us know!
We use a server hosted separately from Invision Plus to generate Tiny Links, and store them in a MySQL database along with their associated long addresses. When the Tiny Link is called for, our other server finds the long address it refers to, and issues a 301 redirect to the web browser.
If you find any problems or have any concerns about Tiny Links, please let us know.
Tiny Links are provided as an exclusive feature for Invision Plus users. Using them or any illegal purpose is forbidden. Tiny Links is free. This service is provided without warranty of any kind.
Thanks!
